- The first Oktoberfest was held in the year 1810 in honor of the Bavarian Crown Prince Ludwig’s marriage to Princess Therese von Sachsen-Hildburghausen.
- Beer plays a central role in the fair, with every festival beginning with a keg of beer tapped by the Mayor of Munich who declares “O'zapft is!” (Bavarian for “It's tapped!”).
- 30% of the year's production of beer by Munich breweries will be consumed in the two weeks of Oktoberfest.
- 12,000 people are employed at the Oktoberfest. Of these, 1600 are waitresses.
- There is available seating for 100,000 people.

Crutchfield Dermatology’s Question of the Month
Do your nails or hair grow after you die?
Human nails and hair do not grow after death. The fact of the matter is that after you die, your body starts to dry out, creating the illusion that your hair and nails are still growing as the rest of you shrivels up.

Good Healthy Blood- Eat enough iron for good energy and healthy blood:
- Iron in the blood helps transport oxygen around the body.
- This fresh oxygen is then used to burn our internal fuel for energy, which is needed for proper cell growth and development. It also provides fuel for other important metabolic processes.
- Beans, whole grains, spinach, and dried fruits have a significant amount of iron.
- Red meat contains significant amounts of iron. If fat is a reason that you do not eat red meat, try eating extra lean meat. Liver is an excellent source of iron.
- Eat more food containing Vitamin C. Vitamin C enhances the absorption of iron into your body. This is very helpful if you are vegetarian.
- Eat iron rich cereal. Many cereals are fortified with iron.

Special Skin Microscope
As a general rule of thumb, Dr. Crutchfield recommends that everyone have a baseline comprehensive skin examination at some point in their life. Based on the examination, your dermatologist will recommend how often you should have additional exams in the future. The most important thing is to get a prompt evaluation if you have a mole changing in any way (size, color, or shape) or any spot on your skin that bleeds and does not heal in three weeks (without provocation). Also, any person who has had a melanoma should make sure that all of their first-degree relatives have a baseline skin examination. At Crutchfield Dermatology we are pioneers in the use of the revolutionary dermatoscope in the evaluation of suspicious moles. This allows Dr. Crutchfield to better see the inner structure of the mole, often times eliminating the need for an uncomfortable biopsy. |

Crutchfield Dermatology’s Great Product of the Month
- Relastin - New!
- Relastin is designed to smooth skin, increase firmness, and enhance elasticity. The result: diminished fine lines and wrinkles - and visibly tighter, smoother, more radiant skin.
- Relastin works by revitalizing your body's natural ability to produce elastin. Elastin is the protein that allows your skin to easily “spring back” into place after it stretches or moves - like when you laugh, smile or frown.
- $118 per jar
